Rouge Leather Devil Tail Whip

Ninety two centimetres of hand braided leather finishing in a forked devil tail, with a leather wrist loop at the grip end. Braiding is slow work and it is what gives a whip its weight distribution, which is the difference between something that cracks and something that flops.

A single tail whip is not a beginner's tool. Practise on a cushion until you can put it where you are aiming every time, because accuracy is the whole safety margin here. Keep strikes to the backside and thighs and never go near the face, neck, kidneys or spine. The wrist loop is there so it does not leave your hand mid swing. Hang it up by the handle so the braid stays straight, and wipe it down after use.

Machine stitched whips lose their shape within a season. Hand braiding holds the taper and the weight, which is why a braided whip still swings properly years after a glued one has gone limp.
